over brandi carlile's song "the story." maybe i'm a little late on this one-- apparently it was on grey's anatomy, so maybe everyone on the planet ha heard it-- but OH MY GOD. seriously, her voice is insane. it's patsy cline meets kurt cobain (meets chris martin meets k.d. lang), and i feel the way i did when i first heard "sheila na gig" by pj harvey-- overwhelmed and obsessed. best thing i have heard in a long, long time.

after you go to itunes and buy it, go to youtube and watch her play it live on conan.

damn.

She reminds me of this British singer Carina Round who I recently got in to. It's very unique. Ha 4 in the morning and I'm getting music and movie recommendations from Miss Nina Gordon. Amazing. (whoa! she just rocked out! awesome)

I love Brandi Carlile! I have her first EP and album which she sold at shows before she was signed (which are both practically impossible to find and aren't even listed in her discography anymore), and I just recently purchased The Story. I just need to find her self titled album now Grin

She sings with so much soul and power in her voice that it's impossible to not become enthralled, "The Story" is definitely a perfect example of this.

i, too, enjoy that song. it was the itunes free single of the week a while back which is how i first heard it. you can still get the video for freezies on itunes! just click on "free on itunes" in the store and then download the grey's anatomy video "the story." ...just saw the youtube conan video... i feel myself becoming obsessed.

watched the conan performance - very k.d. in the first few lines, and woaw! that part where it kicks in, yeah i can see how you say it's kurt-like nina. when i heard the actual album version (which doesn't rock as much as the conan version) i could hear more of the patsy influence (and of course k.d. was very influenced by patsy).

I feel like a fish out of water without some great music. I can't help it if I'm stuck in the '90s! (as my friends say) I don't buy albums anymore cry

Oh and also I liked 'what can I say' better, I wonder if she has a myspace.

If you love youtube and you're interested, Nina, there's a great singer on there called Terra Naomi, I found her about 8 months or so ago and I think she's actually signed now, all through youtube. She has an amazing, amazing song called Flesh for bones. She's plays guitar and piano. She's a real must if you're into that.

Just wow.
I heard 'Wasted' and just knew she was going to be one of my favourite song writers for a long time, I watched tons of her videos on youtube, she's amazing!
I downloaded some rare songs too (there are lots floating around on the web, albums worth I'd say.) 'Silver Cloud' is way rock (totally Cobain) and 'Open Doors' is amazing too.
I can't remember the last time I heard music this inspiring, thanks for letting us know Nina!
